Tetracycline

Tetracycline is a medicine that can be prescribed to treat a wide variety of infections caused by the presence and multiplication of bacteria in the body. Such medical conditions as kidney or liver disease, asthma, diabetes, and allergies to any medications should be reported to your health care provider before you are prescribed tetracycline as they can affect your initial dose. The following medications are supposed to be reported to your health care provider before taking tetracycline, as they can cause drug interactions and can therefore affect the success of your treatment: antacids, nutritional supplements, oral contraceptives, anticoagulants, penicillin, vitamins, and herbal products. The following mild side effects are possible when taking tetracycline: itching of the rectum, changes in skin color, diarrhea, sore mouth, redness of the skin, and upset stomach. Unless these side effects do not go away within several hours, call your doctor and talk about the possibility of a dose adjustment. More serious side effects are possible and they can include any of the following ones: unusual bleeding, fever or chills, itching, extreme tiredness, stomach pain, loss of appetite, difficulty breathing, dark-colored urine, upset stomach, joint stiffness, skin rash, yellowing of the skin or eyes, hives, vomiting, blurred vision, confusion, and decreased urination.
